Make a creamy and delicious cup of bulletproof coffee at home using this recipe to sip on a velvety smooth drink filled with health benefits!

You can enjoy a delicious cup of Bulletproof coffee in less than 2 minutes. And learn about the use of butter, MCT oil differences, and how to make it.

Whether you drink this deliciousness to support your keto goals or want long-lasting energy throughout your morning, Bulletproof coffee is a powerful and delicious way to get in a variety of health benefits and keep cravings at bay.

What is Bulletproof Coffee

This isn't your average cup of joe; it is made with high-quality coffee blended with grass-fed butter and MCT Oil into a golden, velvety, smooth, hot beverage.

The term “Bulletproof coffee” was coined by Dave Aspery, a self-proclaimed bio-hacker and owner of the Bulletproof brand. He claimed that it helped him lose weight, gain mental focus, and have lasting energy from this one drink.

I've been drinking it almost daily since 2013 for the researched health benefits of Bulletproof coffee and because it tastes delicious. And yes, I do notice the difference in how I feel (more below) when I drink it.

Bulletproof Coffee Ingredients

You’ll find the measurements in the recipe card, but first, take a look at why each of these 3 ingredients is important to make bulletproof coffee.

  • High-quality coffee: the better the coffee, the better the taste and experience of this coffee will be. Bulletproof purists recommend single-sourced coffee, organic if possible.
  • Grass-fed butter: use unsalted for this. It’s rich in vitamins A, K, and E and it’s what makes this drink creamy and smooth.
  • MCT oil: medium chain triglycerides oil from coconut oil provides a host of benefits.

What MCT Oil is Best for Bulletproof Coffee?

To make bulletproof coffee, you can use regular coconut oil, MCT oil which is a 9x more concentrated, and Brain Octane Oil, which is 18x more concentrated in medium-chain triglycerides than regular coconut oil.

Making Bulletproof Coffee

If you can brew coffee and blend, you can achieve a delicious cup of Bulletproof coffee at home. Here is how:

  1. Brew the Coffee
Make coffee in your preferred method. The classic method for this is using a French press.
  2. Blend
A blender is key to achieving a silky smooth and creamy drink -not to mention incorporating the MCT oil into the hot beverage instead of having it sit on top.
  3. Pour and enjoy
Grab a mug and sip away!

Where to Buy It

You can find high-quality, single-sourced coffee beans and MCT oil from many local grocery stores, Whole Foods, and Amazon. I use unsalted Kerrygold butter (silver wrapper) which is available at many groceries.

You can also buy the Bulletproof brand coffee beans or a K-Cup ready to drink bulletproof coffee that includes it all.

Bulletproof Coffee Benefits

One of the main bulletproof coffee benefits I personally experience from drinking a cup of bulletproof coffee is the increased focus on work and daily tasks and reduced cravings for sweets or additional caffeine.

When you drink it, you’ll notice that it’s a creamier and richer cup of coffee, which will also keep you full for a while. It’s a great way to break an intermittent fast or prolong your fasting schedule –it will break your fast but you can prolong the time you eat solid food.

Most of the benefits come from the medium-chain triglycerides found in coconut oil which can aid in weight loss and reduce inflammation (ref, ref)

How Does Bulletproof Coffee Work?

The caffeine in coffee is the delivery method of the medium-chain triglycerides found in MCT oil because its composition is able to break the blood-brain barrier. It’s absorbed through the gut and delivered to other areas of the body. Learn more about the benefits of MCT oil here.

How Many Times a Day Can You Drink It?

In theory, you can drink several cups of this delicious coffee drink per day; however, it’s high in fat and calories and not nutritionally dense, so you’re better off limiting it to one cup, providing your body with nutritious foods throughout the day.

How Many Calories Does Bulletproof Coffee Have?

One cup of bulletproof coffee made with 8-12 oz of coffee, 1 tablespoon of butter, and 1 tablespoon of MCT oil has 230 calories and 25g of fat/
